The Bloomberg Professional® Service is a comprehensive, online service system for global financial information that includes: Company information (stock performance, news, balance sheets, historical data, valuations, etc.); information on US and foreign markets; extensive sets of data and statistics on industries, companies, etc.; numerous options for analysing and graphing data; country monitors, economic calendars, government information and currency news; and research services (general, markets, economics, special reports, etc.).

Its Use

Bloomberg is a powerful tool for gathering and analysing information and making decisions in the business and investment world. It has one of the most extensive databases of information available in the financial world. With Bloomberg’s built-in screening, searching, and analysis tools, it allows for extensive data retrieval, interpretation, and manipulation. Information on every financial market, instrument, and variable in the world is at your fingertips. Bloomberg’s international information coverage is also wide-ranging, with news and economic information on every country available both real-time and historically, advanced bond screening, custom option monitoring, portfolio tracking, Excel data exportation, technical analysis, FX cross-rates, industry tracking, global economic statistics and relative company analysis. There are a handful of the hundreds of the integrated Bloomberg functions designed to allow the end user near infinite information access and ability. The financial data obtained from Bloomberg can be downloaded into Excel for further study and analysis.

Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC)

The BMC is a 6 hour self-paced e-learning course that provides a visual introduction to the financial markets. BMC consists of 4 modules – Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income and Equities – woven together from Bloomberg data, news, analytics and television. The course is designed specifically for university students seeking a career in finance and financial service. Students not only are exposed to the most frequently used Bloomberg Terminal functions but also gain practical knowledge of the foundations of the major asset classes that will help to enhance their resume. It takes about 8 hours to complete. A certificate will be given upon successful completion. The BMC is available either through the Bloomberg Institute website or on the Bloomberg Terminal at BMC.
